PROACTIVE MONITORING FOR IP CAMERAS AND RECORDERS

Know which camera is down.

Sentinel checks every IP camera and DVR/NVR channel and tells you which one went dark, froze or got covered, before you need the footage. It works with Hikvision, Dahua, Axis and most ONVIF devices.

Any camera or recorder with ONVIF or RTSP works, Dahua, Axis and Hanwha included. With Hikvision and Digifort Sentinel also uses their own API to check the recorder’s health.

The cost of finding out about a blind camera too late

A camera that stopped recording properly usually gets found out when someone needs the footage.

NO MONITORING

You find out when you already need the footage

  • Cameras freeze or turn away and nobody notices until something happens.
  • When a switch goes down, every camera behind it reports separately and the cause is hard to find.
  • A recorder disk with errors can leave the evidence unsaved.
  • The installer hears about it from the customer’s complaint.
WITH SENTINEL

You find out within minutes what failed and where

  • Every check catches covered cameras, dirty lenses, lost signal and frozen pictures.
  • When a switch goes down, one alert goes out for the switch and the cameras behind it show as unreachable.
  • On Hikvision DVRs and NVRs and on Digifort, disks, channels recording on schedule and the clock are checked.
  • The ticket opens by itself, with a title and the reasons, on the site’s board for you to assign.

Nine failures you can see in the picture.

On every check the agent takes a snapshot from each camera and Sentinel compares it with what that camera should see. When something is wrong, it tells you what it is, since when, and what to check at the site.

What to check on site

An obstruction or tampering at the camera.

What the system does

Sentinel opens an unassigned ticket on the site, with its number, title and the reasons, and alerts the members subscribed to that site by email, Telegram or phone. Email and Telegram carry the camera’s snapshot.

NETWORK TOPOLOGY

When a switch goes down, the alert names the switch.

Sentinel knows which device each camera hangs from. When a switch stops answering, the cameras behind it read “unreachable via” that switch and you get one alert, for the switch.

Routers, switches and access points are watched too. Every site has its network map, and the agent finds the devices on the LAN (over ONVIF and with a scan) so you can add them from there.

RECORDER HEALTH

Disks, recording and the recorder’s clock.

On Hikvision DVRs and NVRs and on Digifort, Sentinel also asks the recorder about its disks, whether each channel records on its own schedule, and whether its clock is right. Other brands still get the picture and network checks.

TICKET BOARD

Every confirmed failure opens a ticket.

When a failure is confirmed, Sentinel opens a ticket on the camera’s site. You assign it to someone on the team, who is told through their own channel, and the comments keep the photos and what was done. When the camera comes back the ticket notes it, and if it fails again soon after, the same ticket reopens.

ALERTS FOR YOUR TEAM

From the camera to your phone.

A small agent runs on a computer at the site. It reaches the cameras and recorders on the local network and connects out to us, so there are no ports to open.

Each person picks where their alerts go, for which sites and which problems. When the camera recovers, another message follows.
